A Post Valentine Post: The words of the demon

Since the day of love is over, let's talk about it. Negatively.

What is love?

Why do we have to fall inlove and get hurt in the process?

Is love really good? Is it divine?

People fall inlove a couple of times. They got hurt a lot and had their hearts broken. But still, they see love as a good thing.

They still hope for it. Long for it. Dream of it.

They still want to fall into the deep and dark pit of love.

Now let's get even deeper.

Let's talk about love in general. Not just the romantic kind of love.

Money is the root of all evil. That's what most people perceive and believe. And most of you would agree to this. But let me introduce to you a new perception. A new belief. My own.

I believe that love, and not money, is the root of all evil. I think that evil is love itself. Cloaked under the clothing of a wolf. Deceiving people for a very long time.

Now I know that you're probably saying this is all crap. But can you think of a single sin that doesn't root from love?

Let's try to discuss them one by one.

Murder or killing. Why do people kill? People kill for the sake of others or for the sake of himself. To avenge or protect someone. May it be himself or another. And that's because of love.

Even psychotic serial killers who do meaningless murders do it for self pleasure.

Also stealing. People steal for himself or loved ones.

Next is lying. People tell lies to protect himself or another. And that's because of love. Even telling lies as a joke can be associated with love. You tell jokes to make someone laugh. To please that someone. Because you love that someone. Or you could do it for yourself. To make you look good in the eyes of others. And it pleases you. People always want to please the one they love. Including their own self.

Vices. Smoking, drinking, gambling, drugs, and everything. Another case of pleasing one's self. You could say that there are others who do these because of self hate. True. But what could be the root of that hate? A broken heart?

That's because of love. Got fired at work? No money? Can't provide for family or self? That's love also.

Failed in school or anything you're working on? You failed someone or yourself? That's love also. You've disappointed the one you love.

Now let's look at the Seven Deadly Sins.

Lust. I guess there's no need to explain this one.

Gluttony. The desire or act of consuming more than what is required. That's pleasing one's self. Self-love.

Pride. Another sin because of self-love.

Envy. Same thing.

Sloth also.

And greed.

But I'd like to discuss about greed.

I'm sure all of you know the word. And also the words sharing and giving.

One could easily say that sharing and giving is the opposite of greed. Sharing or giving is for the benefit others. It's selflessness. It's for the love of others.

While being greedy is for one's self only. It's selfishness. Just for the love of one's self.

But is that really it?

Let's take a deeper look at giving and sharing. The true act. The one that comes from the heart. The one that doesn't make you think about the loss of what you gave or shared but the one that makes you feel really good. It feels really good when you give or share something to someone right? Doesn't matter if that someone is a loved one or a total stranger. It just feels good to share. Especially when you see how thankful that person is to you. And others would admire you. Or you'd admire yourself even more.

But do people share to make others feel good? Or do they do it for themselves? To make themselves feel better.

I've read something about a person who always share or donate something whenever it's necessary. Everytime there's typhoon, earthquakes, landslides, fire. He shares. And when he was asked why he does that, he answered that it makes him feel good.

Now, does it make him different from someone who shops to feel good? Or from someone who collects things to feel good? Or from someone who goes to spas and salons to feel good?

Now think. Is sharing or giving really for the sake or benefits of other? Or is it for the one who shared? Is it still selflessness? Or does it not differ now from selfishness? Is greed still the opposite of giving and sharing?

Now for the last of the deadly sins. Wrath or anger.

Why do people feel these? People feel these when someone they love, it could be someone else or one's self, have been done wrong. Or have done something wrong. Either way, it's still because of love. Because you wouldn't want something bad to happen to the one you love. Or you wouldn't want them to do something wrong which would later result to something bad.

You also get angered when you can't get or achieve something. Because you love yourself and you want everything for yourself. To please yourself.

I commit this sin everytime.  It's my favorite. Why? Because even the Almighty, the Supreme, the Pure and Immaculate God commits this sin. And it's written several times in the bible. Ever heard of the term "the wrath of God"?

Now do you still think love is good?

God is Love. I've seen this a lot times in different places. In homes, vehicles, books, papers, public toilets, and other places that one could write or put a sticker on.

If God is love and love is evil, does it make God evil?

man by nature is greedy....

perhaps you were equating greed to love.... but i'd say it's more of psychological egoism.....

as mentioned above, all those sins are caused by love. therefore, love is evil.

nicely written! the logic on proving what is positive was actually negative. but i just want to ask, how can you tell that you sinned? what are the concepts behind sin? and isn't love a mere nature not a concept?

we get tired of people not by love, therefore, love as for me is divine and the most beautiful gift given by the creator. no contentment on what we have, who we are and the like, lead us to do the things which we are not suppose to do. if we could only offer ourselves more than we are expecting to receive then this planet would be a better place to live on.

@candaze, you say that having no contentment leads us in doing the things that we are not supposed to do. but if you would look deeper into it, having no contentment is driven and motivated by too much love for either one's self or another. it's still love afterall.

@asherisk, how can we tell that we have sinned? once we've done something that is unpleasant to another.
and you were right. sin is just a concept. an idea. good and bad, right and wrong were just ideas. that if you do something unpleasant to others, you are doing something wrong. that you are bad. evil.
and about love being a nature and not a concept, it actually depends on who's looking. no one has ever defined or explained love precisely. there are some ofcourse who tried and gave a meaning to the word but not everyone agrees with them. therefore for me, it remains an idea.

@Asmodeus, love is still love for we are all born because of love. We are living in not a very perfect world and for as long as you know for yourself that you can forgive, repent and give second chances, then love is still in its highest form and cannot be equated with evil.
